What we want:
We are primarily interested in literary, journalistic, or biographical non-fiction, but we also want poetry, short fiction, and visual art.
General guidelines:
We want art that makes grief public.
That grief can be the result of the death of a loved one or any other kind of profound loss. The way we process and deal with loss is what we want to explore, especially how that grieving process is often pushed into private, lonely spaces and how making grief more communal can not only help us deal with grief but also radically transform our society. See the "ABOUT" page for more on the zine's philosophy.
We imagine these three loosely-defined categories (which can and will overlap very much):
(1) Your personal experiences with grief
In your writing, you do not have to deal explicitly with the issue of how much you were able/encouraged to share your grief with others. People telling their personal stories of grief is crucial to the goal of this zine. Just sharing your story is enough! If it feels natural to tell your story while also contemplating the role of other people, including strangers, how others shaped your grief, how society plays a role, etc., then we are happy to accept that, too.
(2) Explorations of grief in society as a whole
(3) Analysis of political & cultural events through the lens of grief
